Lo-Quality Hunter: Lagging in DPS

by on Aug.12, 2009, under Hunter

One of the guys who I’ve been raiding with had mentioned the other week that he was oddly laggy in certain places ever since the new patch. I’m also having some odd lagging and frame rate issues. For my hunter, the Champions field at the Argent Tournament dropped by frame rate from around 30 to 10 or 12 constantly. This doesn’t happen on my warrior and my hunter is fine doing the daily citadel joust. Drives me absolutely insane.

And last night I found another area. We went in to do the Vault of Archavon 25 man. Everything was fine until we got to Emalon. Maybe it was all the spell effects going off or something but my latency almost tripled and my frame rate dropped by half during that fight. I barely was cracking 3k dps, which is low when I have full 25-man raid buffs on me. We still was able to down him but I felt annoyed that I wasn’t contributing as much as I should.

Then we went again Archavon himself. Here, I was absolutely find. I was hitting around 4.2k dps and all three hunters in the raid were topping the damage charts. (I know one guy even mentioned the fact that the top stops were all “green” which is the default hunter color in recount.) I have no idea why I had the problems with Emalon but not Archavon. I just hope it straightens out because otherwise it looks like I’m slacking on the Emalon fight.

The Agency had tried to move their Ulduar raid night a night early but either everyone didn’t get the message or people just weren’t on last night for some reason. They have two 10-man raid teams and neither had either their full group nor the right configuration. The team I’m on was apparently missing a tank, a healer and I think one or two dps. So it was postponed until tonight.

So, with the raid cancelled, we had time on our hands. The Plush Kitty Toys decided to run Utgarde Keep, once on regular since one of our mage alts needed to do the quests there, and then a timed run on heroic. For the regular run I did it as my mage since she could use the added xp. For the heroic, it was my hunter.

On the heroic we managed to shave about 1 minute and 45 seconds of our time from 26 minutes 15 seconds down to 24 minutes 29 seconds. As we expected, with no deaths on this run we shaved close to 2 minutes off our time. There was only one place I can think of where we accidentally aggro’ed an additional group of mobs that we hadn’t planned on , so other then increasing dps, we’re pretty close to our limit. I guess we’ll just see on our next run.

But that was about it. Even the previous night, nothing really went on other than picking up the Pony Up! achievement, although I haven’t used the new abilities of my squire. Hopefully tonight’s raid will go off and there’ll be more to talk about.
