Lo-Quality Hunter: Weekend Wrap, Northern Exposure Edition

by on Aug.03, 2009, under Hunter

Another relatively quiet weekend. I didn’t even receive any raid invites, although I did try. We had our guild run on Friday night, paired up with the guild Fever this time, whom our druid has done some runs with. But we had some problems with that one and it never really got going.

Partially it was because some of the people we were expecting to come didn’t. This meant we suddenly had to PUG some people. I went to Dalaran for the advertising. First I was doing the regular “LFM healer Naxx 10.” Which then became “LFM tank Naxx 10”. It then evolved into “LFM healer or Tank, Naxx 10”. Then finally “LFM Naxx 10.” Why all the confusion, other than making me looking particularly insane on the various channels?

Dual-specing. Well, as I mentioned before, our druid acts as a healer or tank and I think he was tanking initially, and was going to have one of our priest dps. One of our paladins was along but when we knew we needed extra heals, he switched out with his wife so we could get a priest. Then the healer we had picked up dropped, and our dps priest said he could go heals. So with a druid and a healer both being able to dual-spec as needed, we figured we’d just need a tank or a healer and we’d compensate. That’s when a dps we picked up had to leave for a guild run and that’s when I went to general LFM status.

To be honest, I was happy the healer dropped since he was one of those “why would we need vent?” types of people. I explained that we had some people who hadn’t done Naxx yet and he scoffed. To me, vent is like power-steering, you don’t need it to drive a car but it does make driving easier. The dps who left annoyed me because when he left for a guild run, he more or less said “oh, I didn’t think it would be this long and I have a guild run in 30 minutes.” What? Did he think we were going to do a Naxx clear in an hour or something?

So, I’m once again annoyed and we hadn’t even started! Eventually, we picked up enough people and we went in with two tanks, three healers, and five dps. It was two warriors, two hunters, two priests, two death knights, a druid and a rogue. Or at least I believe that was our configuration. Our druid was acting as an extra healer because we were unsure if our priests could handle the healing by themselves. A warrior and a DK were acting as the MT and OT respectively. This actually worried me a little because I thought we were a little light on dps in that case.

And my worries came true. We went in to the Arachnid quarter and was fine on the clear but ran aground on the first boss, Anub’Rekhan. We did start fine, the OT picked up the first add and the dps shifted to kill it relatively quickly. It was during the first locust swarm that things went wrong. I’m not sure what happened but I think the DKs didn’t pull back, and when the swarm was over and the new crypt guard popped up, the OT was a little slow in picking him up. The other DK, already weakened from the locust swarm, died at this point, reducing our already short dps. Plus, I believe this was also when Anub’Rekhan did his little “corpse scarab” summons, which just added to the chaos.

Well, we dissolved into a wipe shortly thereafter. Then our druid got stuck! He could log in to all his alts, just not on his druid. We discussed whether to continue or not but the rogue pointed out that our dps output was too low. I checked and even my dps output was lower than normal. We waited a bit but I eventually called it. For whatever reason, we were just not in the right configuration to be doing the run and I’d rather call a run early than having players get locked to an instance on a bad run.

I felt a bit bad about it still. We are arranging for another run with Fever this coming Friday and hopefully things go well this time. I also hope it doesn’t take us nearly as long to form up this time, our raid was set for just before midnight server time and we didn’t get in for over an hour. While that’s still evening for most of the PKTs, I know that the Fever members are on the mainland and I wouldn’t want to go too far into the night for them.

The rest of the weekend was relatively boring. I think I did an Wintergrasp battle when I’m repeatedly reminded how badly Alliance does in driving their vehicles. (Why do people keep insisting running into a siege engine head-on?) The horde is getting trickier, they had several of them parachute in behind the keep before the battle even started. I had four or five kills before the official start! Those “saboteurs” created quite a bit of havoc within the keep itself.

Otherwise, I spent time doing dailies, where I managed to pick up the 5,000 gold version of the Got My Mind On My Money achievement. I also did some stocking up on consumables. I also finally picked up the Northern Exposure achievement for killing Icehorn. I’ve been looking for those rares for months and I finally spotted him while flying through Borean Tundra. I also managed to grab a couple more books towards the Higher Learning achievement.

I’m hoping to get into a last minute raid tonight, but it’s sort of doubtful. Just how my weekend has been going. At least I got to work on my alts a bit, which I’ll also talk about. Guess we’ll see how this week goes.
