Lo-Quality Hunter: I Have Got to Stop Believeing Everything I Read

by on Jul.17, 2009, under Hunter

Once again I had sort of an aimless night with my hunter. Didn’t get any raid invites and nobody from my guild was on for a while. So I went and did the Argent Tournament dailies to gain some extra gold. I then noticed that I seemed to be killing scourge even faster than before. Well, it made sense once I realized that the last time I did the dailies was before my string of recent gear upgrades. Hmm, maybe I should try and solo those quests now…

You know the quests I’m talking about. The ones that explicitly call for a group of 3 or 5 to accomplish. The ones that when you read up on them, the comments are usually a string of “oh it’s so easy, I soloed it as a 80 DK.” What they don’t say is that they exploited a bug or that they are dual-wielding legendary weapons and are so geared that Ulduar bosses just hand over their loot rather than get killed by them again.

Okay, I’m exaggerating. Generally they just say that they did it at a certain level with a certain class, but they don’t say how they did it, what gear or buffs they had on, stuff that might let someone else figure out how to defeat them. After all, if you grabbed all the level 80 hunters, set them against some elite mob, you’ll get various results depending on build, gear, and skill levels. Some hunter are just better at trapping things. Others have perfected their jump shots. Yet others have their shot rotation or priority tweaks within an inch of it’s life.

Why is this a problem? Well, mainly in that as soon as I read that someone soloed a group quest, I’m arrogant enough to think I can naturally do it myself. Why don’t I just get a group? Well, in general I don’t play well with others and while my guildmates are more than willing to help out, they’re not always in the same “phase” as I am for the quests and can’t help.

So which quests am I talking about? The trinity of The Rider of Blood, The Rider of Frost, and The Rider of the Unholy. I had tried months ago with some guildmates helping except, as I mentioned, they weren’t in the same “phase” as myself and as such, I was on my idiotically own.

But I figured, I’m better geared, so I figure I tried. And I did get rather beat up. Nothing like being beat down from around 18K hp down to 300 hp to remind you that maybe you still need help. Oddly enough, the rider of the unholy, Rokir, I found the fight with him was rather easy although almost everyone else said he was the hardest of the three. Maybe it was the cold medicine…

Anyway, I did succeed. And then I couldn’t quite remember where to turn the quests in, which took up another 10 minutes. And then, I just wasn’t sure what to do with myself. A briefly wandered over to Borean Tundra and farmed some Chunk o’ Mammoth and Rhino Meat for the heck of it.

Then I read about the subsequent quest from the rider one and people were saying they could solo that one! Fortunately, guildmates started logging in and wanted to run something so I was distracted enough to not remember about it until this morning. Hopefully by the time I log on tonight I’ll forget or get too drunk to care. I’m easy to please.
