Lo-Quality Hunter: Weekend Wrap, Drunken Raid Edition
by lqwow on Jul.13, 2009, under Hunter
Don’t ask me why but during our guild raid runs, I’ve started drinking a beer per boss we fight. So, last weekend, with us going pretty fast, I was about a beer or two behind. This weekend, again I was about a beer behind in bosses. Which means we were going at a good pace but I’m also hitting beers pretty fast. That’s alright, it’s not like I pay attention most of the time anyway.
Of course, what made this guild Naxx run interesting was the fact that I left the power brick for the laptop I use to run vent at the office. So I was good for all of the arachnid quarter, the laptop died just before we hit Gluth in the construct quarter. But when you get down to it, I’m generally familiar with the fights, I have Deadly Boss Mods, and I’m dps so I just shoot stuff and usually doesn’t need coordination.
Actually, the combined Plush Kitty Toys and Solitaires have done arachnid so much, we do have it down pat in general. Well, except for Faerlina which we still can’t seem to do properly but we still kill her. We did have some argument over the requirements of the Momma Said Knock You Out. I argued that if we wanted it, we couldn’t even let her get the Widow’s Embrace while others were of the opinion that as long as she didn’t frenzy, we were gold. Well, from what I can tell, Widow’s Embrace is a “prevent†but it didn’t matter since after a try or two we said “hell with it†and just did it normal, meaning we kept slapping her and accidentally killing the adds at random points.
For the construct quarter, we have Patchwork down no problem. Grobbulus gave us a little trouble, although we’re getting the mechanics down better. For instance, the call-outs for the injection went out promptly and for the most part, people ran in the right direction. Not entirely perfect yet. Some people would run through other poison clouds on the way to set off the injection, which just made the load on the healers higher. The other issue was that ranged people would drop the injection, then barely move out of the cloud and return to business. Which is okay, except that means you’re actually in the way of others running to dump the injection and there’s a chance of getting cut off. I prefer to have people return to the center where they don’t interfere with others running in and out.
Now as I said, my vent laptop died just before Gluth, so I don’t know what was said other than the fact that I knew I was one of the ones playing bait, fortunately I’m used to it. One of the other hunters had put up Aspect of the Pack going into the pipe leading into his room and I didn’t noticed until the first time I got stunned. It’s a good idea but I learned the last time I was in there not to do it. I did miss one decimate warning, so I hadn’t pulled them towards the very back wall when it hit. Then again, I don’t think it would have mattered because when I looked up, Gluth was being tanked in the middle of the room rather than the far end. I also wasn’t fast on picking up mobs on our druid healer, although to be honest, the druid was standing on the grate near where the zombie chow spawns and naturally they aggro’ed on her rather quickly.
After a few tries, we gave up and went back to plague quarter to take Noth out. We always seem to just do him instead of continuing on to Heigan. One of these times, I’d like to at least attempt Heigan so that people can see what the fight is like. Oh well. There was one brief moment of panic when one of the other hunters who had been using MD on me for the Gluth add fight, hit me with an MD as we entered plague! Fortunately, I saw it an instant before I fired so I just waited a bit before ramping up my damage. Still more excitement than it should have been.
So that was Friday. Saturday a few of us got in an Obsidian Sanctum 25. And I got the impression that a lot of these guys didn’t PUG. For one thing, the loot rules was never ever stated. My experience is that on an OS 25, you can win only one roll for loot. But one guy argued “but isn’t it one tier roll, one regular roll?†Considering he won a tier piece, he took it rather poorly when most of us said it was just one roll and he couldn’t roll on the Dragon Hide Bag. The other thing was whether or not we go into the portals. Now I heard the raid leader say “I’ll stay outside the portal with the main tank to heal him.†That implies that we go in. Others were “NOBODY goes into the portals anymore!†Which is BS. Yeah, if you’re running with all people with Ulduar gear, you can get away with it. But otherwise, I consider the default to go in. So there was much yelling and name calling because of that. Either way, we did down the Sartharion and split.
We did have enough time afterwards as a guild to go do a quick Heroic Old Kingdom run. Fortunately, I was sober so I was able to explain the fights for the most part. Our tank hadn’t been there before so he didn’t know about a few of the things to watch out for. For instance, we had a bad habit of dying because we managed to pull a patrol in addition to whatever group we had gone to tackle. The Herald Volazj fight was especially interesting in that it took forever to take out priest clone out.
Sunday night was mostly a dead night. The Agency asked me where our druid was but he wasn’t on. I briefly was invited to a Vault of Archavon 10, except as we were forming, we saw the “Battle for Wintergrasp will begin in 15 minutes†announcement.
Otherwise, not much else going on with Keyalnon. I’m considering adjusting my talent trees again. I’m pretty happy overall but I have the feeling I can eek out a few more levels of either efficiency or dps. But I guess we’ll wait and see.
