Lo-Quality Mage: I Hate Being Soft and Squishy
by lqwow on Jul.10, 2009, under Mage
This was actually supposed to have gone out yesterday since I played my Mage two nights ago but I was a bit lazy yesterday. But with my hunter and warrior sitting at 80 and doing not much else other than grinding for gold and with my rogue sitting at 75 and finally able to open any lockboxes, I felt I should put some time in with my mage.
Now my mage is a draenei by the name of Phaeledra. Again, a made up name but since she’s the only one who shows up when I do an armory search, pretty unique. She was my fourth lvl 70 more by accident than anything else. When Burning Crusade came out, there was a whole rush of draenei shaman. Well, I did want to see the new draenei related content, but I didn’t want to do a shaman. So my former human mage was dropped and Phaeledra came into being.
Phaeledra also serves as my main miner and my jewelcrafter. Not that it matters but I felt I’d work her up to get some of the high-end gems (and the rate my hunter keeps re-gemming his gear, it’s rather important) plus it’d be nice to get a mage high enough in the guild to open the Dalaran portal. Our other high level mage is at 72, but that guild member now uses his druid as his main (and building up a nice rep as a healer in general) and occasionally his hunter as his alt. Fortunately, Keyalnon had some extra Stone Keeper’s Shards to burn and had picked up a Exquisite Sunderseer Mantle to help my other alts on their leveling.
So once again I ventured into Borean Tundra to begin. And also quite naturally, I couldn’t quite remember how to play my mage correctly. For instance, I saw the Hot Streak kick in. I then spent a few seconds trying to figure out which buff this was and what it did for me. “Oh, instant pyroblast? Now which button was my pyroblast…â€
I also am so used to blasting at things with my hunter and if they come in and start beating up on me, no problem, I have closet to 20K hit points and I wear mail. Er, not so with my mage. Phae ended up taking quite a beating. At least I remembered enough to conjure up some food and water but I was almost constantly eating and drinking as I puttered around.
Of course puttering around can be interesting as well. I managed to pick up the Tastes Like Chicken achievement when I popped a Nagrand Cherry as I dove underwater for a quest. I tried to complete the D.E.H.T.A. chain but Harold Lane decided to kick my butt with bear pelts. Yes, I was “pelted to deathâ€.
So I’m a decent amount towards level 71. It sort of depends how well Key does in getting involved with raids but hopefully within the month, Phae will be in Dalaran and shuttling the PKT’s up there willy-nilly.
