Lo-Quality Hunter: Where’d All the Gold Go?

by on Jul.08, 2009, under Hunter

Now I’ve made a few large purchases in my life. My car was one. My apartment was another. Each time, I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach as quite a bit of what I had either saved up had been gone in an instant. I get the same feeling each time I do something similar in WoW. The Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth comes to mind. And I did it once again as I spent most of my hunter’s savings to buy a Nobles Deck out of the auction house, which then became a Darkmoon Card: Greatness. Hey, I’m a survival hunter, agility is everything to me.

Okay, maybe not everything but pretty darn close. It did go to replace my Anvil of Titans trinket. I don’t quite PvP anymore, so the straight up agility bonus is better than the resilience rating. Besides, the way I survive PvP has more to do with killing the other guy faster than resisting what he’s doing to me.

Either way, my coffers were sure empty after picking up that little item. Was it worth it? Won’t know until some time has passed. And yes, there are people with thousands of gold on their characters. Some people do everything they can to eek out every last coin in the game and horde it like they had dragon blood in their veins. I’m not really like that. Best I can hope for is to set a goal and eventually get enough to get it, while still having a small buffer for the incidentally expense. So, now I’m starting once again to save up, hopefully to get a Band of the Kirin Tor at some point. That extra teleport to Dalaran would be worth it.

Otherwise, I didn’t do too much last night. I did upgrade my chest enchantment to Powerful Stats and my weapon enchantment to Massacre and I thought I’d call the day fruitful. As usual, I was wrong.

I did catch someone asking for people for a Vault of Archavon 25, wanting to know class, spec, and stats. Since I recognized the name, I did a brief whisper of “survival hunter, what stats did you want to know?” Don’t look at me like that, some people want to know AP, others want to know crit % and others want to know dps numbers, so I asked. The reply? Something to the effect of “I’ve raided with you before, just ask for an invite next time.” Which I believe translated more to “We’ve raided together and we didn’t kick your ass out” seal of approval. Which I did appreciate. I’ve raided with many people and believe me, not everyone wants you back.

So I join in and got greeted by several people, which is again, very nice. They even asked if there were any more Plush Kitty Toys who wanted in. Now our druid often does healing work for them and I’ve filled in on dps a few times. One of our priest has also been on a run with them. So it was nice that we’ve done enough that they wouldn’t mind seeing a few more PKT on a run with them. Means we’re doing some nice guild rep building. Unfortunately our druid was already on a Naxx 25 run (oddly enough, with other members of their guild) and nobody else from PKT was really interested.

Takes quite awhile but finally we get our 25 and run on in. We wipe once on Emalon. Not quite sure why, I was to busy shooting things. The second try, he goes down easily. Oddly enough both Conqueror’s Sourgestalker Handguards and Conqueror’s Scourgestalker Legguards both drops. Including myself, we had three hunters. I already had the handguards, so I didn’t roll on them. I did roll on the pants though and lost to one of the other hunters. But fortunately, he had won the roll for the handguards and the pants defaulted to me. Archavon went down relatively trouble free, and let’s face it, if you survive Emalon, Archavon better not be an issue for you. And that was it.

Except now I found myself once again having the regem and enhance new gear. Need to work a bit on it, especially figuring out a new balance of gems. Keyalnon is actually sitting at 9% on hit, a full percentage over cap and has a 35.73% hit chance. I can definitely sacrifice some hit and that is definitely more than a comfortable crit percentage. Based on recount, I actually crit well over 50% of the time on the majority of my shots anyway. Just need to figure out what would be the best mix…
