Lo-Quality Hunter: There Was A Patch?
by lqwow on Feb.11, 2009, under Hunter
We are now up to patch 3.0.9 which my co-worker refers to as a “null-patchâ€. Not exactly but I’m also not really affected by any of the changes. The hunter ones are aimed towards BM hunters, which I do applaud. If a tweak allows those who love to be BMs to be BMs and not lose out on dps, then I’m all for it. Although I am hearing that it doesn’t quite make up the difference just yet. (This post is coming out a bit late because the system I do my web publishing from decided it needed a nap.)
Quiet night for me on the hunter front. I did get into a 10-man Obsidian Sanctum. And yes, I was in Sholazar when I got the invite. I still ended up being one of the first to get to Wyrmrest Temple. So I got to be the summoner, which gets a little silly at times. Oddly enough, it was the other hunter in the group who helped me summon. And apparently a BM, judging from his Core Hound pet.
For the most part, it’s a smooth run. There is a brief moment when I get a bit confused by the new Shadow Fissure color. (It was in the patch changes.) It’s now a pretty blue but by nature, whenever any type of shiny thing appears around me in a boss fight I assume it’s something bad and I move away. It’s shortly followed by a panic moment when I enter the shadow portal, shoot and realize the Off-Tank hadn’t come in and grabbed the aggro yet. Fortunately he does show and the healer is kind enough to heal me.
We clear the three drakes and head for Sartharion. We rush forward and things get started. Things are going well, OT is picking up the adds and the dps are whaling on Sartharion. The first lava wave comes by and there’s no problem. The second wave comes by and that’s when things become interesting. The OT misaligns and suddenly all the adds on him enrage. I’m able to tranq one and I wait for the other hunter to hit one but nothing happens. Oh well, wouldn’t be the first time I went in with another hunter and they didn’t know to tranq shot the enraged adds. Then I glance at the side of my screen and realize the hunter and another of our dps were dead. Uh-oh.
Why “uh-oh†beyond the fact that I became the main person doing tranq shots? Well, when we went in, we had two tanks (MT and OT) and three healers. Meaning we had only 5 dps people, of which now two were dead within the first couple of minutes of the fight. Most times when I go in, it’s 2 tanks, 2 healers and 6 dps. So we were down to half of the dps I normally see in the group.
And as you can guess, it made for a relatively long fight. About 7 minutes long. Yes I know the Eye of Eternity fight tends to go on longer than that, as do a few other fights. But normally when I do OS, it’s only a 3-4 minute fight. So this was twice as long. So between pinging down adds, tranqing enraged ones, hitting Sartharion, and dodging the lava waves, it made for a very tiring fight.
Didn’t win any rolls but it’s one more raid down. Then I headed back to Sholazar. Did the dailies because I still need the money but more importantly, I finally got the The Oracles achievement. I briefly considered doing the switch to the Frenzyheart Tribe so I can work on the Mercenary of Sholazar achievement but I figured I’d take a break since I’ll probably be busy focusing on the “Love is in the Air†events. Gotta go around and share the love after all!
