Lo-Quality Hunter: Glad Nobody Reads This

by on Jan.30, 2009, under Hunter

I’m so glad nobody reads this blog. It’s not been advertised and most people, even my guildmates, don’t even know that it’s out there. Frankly I’d be surprised anyone is reading this, essentially making these posts long talks to myself. But the reason I’m glad nobody reads this is because my last post would have sent up a flurry of flamed posts or comments. Then again, most of my posts are like that since they’re my opinion and not everyone is gonna agree.

So what brought this up? Well, I wrote my post then I went to go read Less QQ, More PewPew. I respect Drotara greatly, his blog was the first WoW blog I started reading regularly and I greatly respect his opinion and advice. And what’s his post about? About a guy who was apparently holding a grudge relating to spec builds.

Drotara then talks about specs for a bit and even mentions about how BRK (from BigRedKitty, another blogger I read and respect) has specced into SV. That pretty much goes against what I talked about in my last post. Does that mean they’re wrong and I’m right? Nope. Nor vice-versa. We just have different goals and different philosophy about the game. And actually, the main point of Drotara’s post, and the focus of the grudge, was that while he was recommending a certain spec build, he wasn’t saying that it was the only viable spec. The way he plays is to bring the best dps he can and that’s what he was recommending.

I’m not a raider, I’m not in a raiding guild, and dps has never been my goal. I’m a “casual” player in most sense of the word. If I did manage to find a raiding guild I could participate in, and they asked me to change specs, they’d better have a damn good reason for me to change other than to say “that’s how you have to be as a hunter with us.” I want to see reports where I’m not pulling my weight, meaning I’d better be the lowest dps on that report. If I’m still beating out 5 or 6 other dps, you better be bugging them more than bugging me.

Even then, to be honest, I probably would drop the guild. I play to have fun in my own way, and as long as it doesn’t interfere with others having fun, don’t bother me or try to force me otherwise. (For instance, I’m not one of those guys who get their jollies out of pissing off other people, like killing quest givers and such.) Forcing me to play a spec I didn’t want to play would violate that. And staying in a guild while playing in a way not best for that guild, violates that second part.

After all, being in a guild, unless you’re running it, means you have to do what’s best for everyone as part of the guild. That’s why my warrior became protection rather than remain fury. The fact that it’s worked out for me is besides the point. The guild had a need and they asked me to sacrifice the way I was playing my warrior to fulfill that need.

Actually, Drotara more or less said things along the same lines. That if you’re going to be in a high end content guild, you have to expect to sacrifice a bit. That’s why I’m just a dinky average player and not an expert at this game or even being a hunter. I play to the level I wish to play. And while I envy at times guys running around in full tier 7 gear putting out 2 or 3 times the dps I can, they put time and effort to get that way (or I’m assuming they are) and if I’m not willing to do the same, I have no basis to bitch about it right?
