Lo-Quality Hunter: Everyone Goes Boom!

by on Aug.02, 2010, under Hunter

This weekend involved a lot of explosions.  Pretty much all bad.  You would think I’d get used to being blown up but I guess not.

It started out with a continuation of Heroic Professor Putricide.  It started out with us being short a tank and having to grab someone’s friend.  Not a problem actually, in fact the guy doing the abomination actually ended up being too good.  He would get the slimes down so fast, he didn’t have any for slows later on.

I know I disconnected at least once.  I’m going to have to just assume it will happen all the time for the forseeable future until they repair the underwater cable.  I know we did wipe once during my d/c.  Otherwise, we did actually do better on our plague handling, and we didn’t even use the funky alphabet we did last time.

For the most part, we rotated generally well through the 6 ranged/healers, leaving the tanks and melee dps to just focus on the boss.  On the times we messed up the rotation, usually our DK would rotate in for a bit.  Fortunately, because he’s a plate wearer, he had more health in the first place and could last a bit long.

I’m not even sure how many tries it took.  I know during the fight we actually got him down, during one point our tank managed to grab the plague and I quickly grabbed it from him.  I still had the debuff but me dying is a minor inconvenience.  The tank dying would be an automatic wipe.  I also remember having the plague in phase 3, getting trapped by slime and being okay with it since I figured the plague would go away when I died, and then our shadow Priest comes running over and takes the plague from me.

Whatever we did, it finally worked though and we finally got our Heroic: The Plagueworks (10 man)!  10 of 12 down on Heroic and our raid leader said that it put us in the top 20 of guilds on our realm, since very few have taken down Putricide on Heroic.  I was just glad it was over.

We then went to Frostwing Hall, which was less successful.  We gave Dreamwalker a few Heroic tries but we had to eventually give up.  We just didn’t have the correct group composition for it.  Practically all our heals were optimized for raid healing instead of single target healing.  On one try, Dreamwalker’s health barely moved.  I think she actually had less health than what she started with!

Finally we decided to just take her out on normal, hitting Sindragosa on Heroic and getting some practice in was more important.  It’s also where we spent the next two nights.

And it was ugly.  I was killed several times by Unchained Magic explosions from other people.  Nothing like going through the logs to see “recieved 1049 damage from XXX Backlash…”  We eventually got better at it but I was still getting blown up by raid members last night.

Another weird thing was the Frost Bombs.   We normally stack our two people near the bottom of the stairs.  However, we had an instance where the Frost Bomb landed right on top of an Ice Tomb, it was practically impossible to Line-of-Sight it unless you were already on the other Tomb.

Not that the weird placement was the only reason.  I know one of our DK’s had the darndest time trying to avoid the blasts and kept dying repeatedly during the air phase.  We also had some heartattack moments with breaking the ice block.  I know one time I was broken out just an instant after the bomb landed, I was already sprinting to try and get behind the other block.

We consistently pushed into phase 2 but our timing was often.  Either people would break the ice tombs too early, before the tanks could drop their stacks.  Or someone would run too close and get ice tombed as well.  And I know I died at least once when both people with the Unchained Magic ran behind the Ice Block and blew us all up!

In spite of all this, we got her down to about 4-5% of health.  And I know we hit the enrage at least once.  Just like Lich King, all it takes is one mistake and it wipes the raid pretty much.  Even  more so on Heroic.  I know our Shaman and Druid healers were using their battle rezzes and it still wasn’t enough.

Tonight is usually our off night but we’re goint to try and see if we can get a few more tries in.  Otherwise, I’m pretty sure we won’t extend the raid, we’ll just start anew after the reset.  I feel we’re pretty close, so if not tonight, most likely next week.  I’d love to get a complete 12 of 12 for Heroic bosses.
