Lo-Quality Hunter: A Return to Raiding

by on Jul.29, 2010, under Hunter

Due to work activities, I haven’t been able to raid quite as much last week as I normally do.  In fact, the only night I really got to raid was the only night I wasn’t putting ridiculous hours in at work.  I don’t even remember much of last week.  Heck, apparently I got The Orb Whisperer (25 player) achievement and didn’t realize it until I looked at my armory page just now.

I know this past week they were going to try Heroic Sindragosa in our 10-man team, but from what I heard, that didn’t go well.  I did briefly talk to our raid leader and he said they were also going to try Heroic Putricide.  Why not actually?  Apparently last week they couldn’t even field 10 people so they 9-man’ed Lich King.  Might as well go for a challenge.

However, I’m now back on my regular schedule and made it for this week’s 25-man raids.  (Although I’m late in posting about it.)  Tuesday night went pretty well and we pretty much cleared everything except the three bosses we haven’t been able to do yet:  Blood Queen, Sindragosa, and Lich King.  It was the first time we did those other 9 bosses all in one night though.  I did get a Protector’s Mark of Sanctification out of it, and coupled with one I got last week, means I now have 4-pieces of ilvl264 Tier armor.  While it’d be nice to get the 5th piece, I can now defer it to others who might need the upgrades more.

Last night we weren’t even sure we were going to raid because it’s been harder and harder to get 25 people on Wednesday night.  In fact, we didn’t last night and still went up against Blood Queen with only 24 people.

Which was good and bad.  For the most part, people finally got the bites down and what to do when.  (Except for one exception I’ll mention in a bit.)  In fact, the few mind controls we had happened usually happened because their bite targets died.  Almost happened to me when I was about to bite our mage.  I had just got next to him and was about to clikc my bite button when he died!  I immediately turned around and bit the first person I could find, which happened to be a healer and a waste of a bite at that point.

Otherwise, we were consistently going deep into the fight, usually losing to the enrage timer but getting the Blood Queen down to under 200k hp, where that one extra dps could have made a difference.  But at least we were getting close and no longer losing people because they all clustered together during the air phase.

But like I said, it wasn’t perfect.  On the try where we did finally kill her, I got tagged near the end by Pact of the Darkfallen.  However, the melee guy who I was linked with, didn’t come out to the middle since we were close to defeating her and ended up getting myself and one of our Druid healers killed.  She did go down and we finally got out The Crismon Hall (25 player) achievement but if we had wiped?  I’d have been rather pissed at that point.

We managed to finish with enough time for a couple of cracks at Sindragosa.  Which naturally, didn’t go well.  During the first air phase, instead of 5 Ice Tomb’s we had about 8.  And we just didn’t have the dps to break that made blocks at once.  Although I could be wrong.  I wouldn’t know, I was one of the Ice Tombed that died.

Second try was similar.  And again, since I was a popscicle, I don’t know what happened outside but I still managed to die from aphyxiation.  I think it was because both times I was on the far end and not enough people stacked up on my block.  I’ll know better next time.

But we called it a night at that point.  We were a bit tired and getting 10 of 12 down was nice.  Hopefully we can do as well next week.  Tonight should start our 10-man’s again, and I’m looking forward to seeing if we can get it together enough to take out Putricide and Sindragosa on heroic.
